Banana Man vs Alien Man

When Ray Comfort challenged Richard Dawkins to a debate on the existence of God, the professor refused, referring to Ray Comfort as the “Banana Man” and an ignorant fool. Banana Man is a reference to an illustration by Ray Comfort in which he compared the complex design elements of a Coke can to the complex design elements of a banana in order to demonstrate that thoughtful design by a designer is required for both examples. Over 1 million copies of this illustration were sold in the form of “The Atheist Test”. However, atheists removed the Coke can from the video version and sent it across the internet saying that Comfort believed that the banana was conclusive proof of God’s existence, missing the point of the illustration completely. They also said that the banana had been modified over time by man to fit in the palm of the hand, and not by God. But in their effort to make him look foolish, atheists gave Ray Comfort an international platform for his message. His book, You Can Lead an Atheist to Evidence, but You Can’t Make Him Think rocketed up the Amazon.com rankings on its first day of release, moving from number 69, 572 to number 38 in twenty-four hours and was the number one book in the categories of religion and atheism on Darwin Day – even bumping out Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion.
Comfort apologized for his mistake about the banana, saying “my apologies for not explaining myself more clearly. I was not aware that the common banana had been so modified through hybridization. However, the truth remains that God gave man the knowledge and ability to modify it so that it perfectly fit into his hand. He did the same with big dogs so that they could fit into our car and with wild cats, so that they our perfectly fit for the wife.” Ray Comfort along with actor Kirk Cameron has debated atheists on ABC’s Nightline in 2007, was a platform speaker at American Atheists Inc 2001 national convention, and written many books on atheism, including God Doesn’t Believe in Atheists.
In reference to Dawkins, Comfort said, “In Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, when Ben Stein asked Richard Dawkins ‘what do you think is the possibility that intelligent design might turn out to be the answer to some issues in genetics or in evolution’, he answered ‘at some earlier time somewhere in the universe a civilization evolved by probably some kind of Darwinian means to a very very high level of technology that designed a form of life that they seeded onto perhaps this planet – now that is a possibility and an intriguing possibility. And I suppose that its possible that you might find evidence for that if you look at the details of biochemistry, molecular biology, you might find a signature of some sort of designer.” Wait a second! Richard Dawkins thought intelligent design might be a legitimate pursuit? “And that designer could well be a higher intelligence from elsewhere in the universe, but that higher intelligence would itself have had to have come by some explicable or ultimately explicable process. It couldn’t have just jumped into existence spontaneously and that’s the point.”
So Professor Dawkins was not against Intelligent Design – just certain types of designers such as God. Professor Dawkins believes that highly intelligent aliens from somewhere in the universe may have created us. Ray Comfort has lifted his offer to $20,000 to Professor Dawkins for thirty minutes of his time to explain why he believes that there is no God. He suggested that the debate be called “Banana Man versus Alien Man” and let the audience decide who is the “ignorant fool”. What does Professor Dawkins fear? Will there be a debate? Stay informed! I hope Richard accepts the offer, he’s already turned it down twice. I’m not sure if Richard Dawkins has ever heard the entire Biblical gospel message.
From what I’ve heard from him he has never been able to describe what the gospel is. I would be happy to see Ray Comfort explain it to him.
The only hope for Dawkins salvation is the power of God. Of course that’s the only hope for any and every person. I’ll be praying for him though…
Mr Dawkins loves his fame and image too much to jeopardize it like this, and his faithful followers will back him up on his attempts to avoid that from occurring.
Justin, don’t be as dense as you’ve proven yourself in the past. The interviewer for the movie asked Dawkins what might constitute “intelligent design” and he told them what he believed would constitute it.
The interview, by the way, was made by people lying about who they were with, what they were doing, and heavily edited. The entire movie “Expelled” was done in this manner, and is a seriously dishonest portrayal of both ID proponents and foes. There was a concerted effort to conceal their alignment, purposes, and affiliation when they interviewed scientists.
To make an analogy – if I said “what evidence would you consider as true for evolution?” and you told me, then I claimed you believed in evolution – would that be honest? Would I be telling the truth?
I’m pretty sure lying is against your biblical rules. By the way, what evidence would you accept for evolution and the eons of the earth?
Jackson, I simply put up a video and the text of the video. If you want people to know something about it, feel free to do so (as you have already done here in the comments). I am fully against lying and shame on any person involved with Expelled who lied. As far as evidence for macroevolution, look throughout this site for my opinion.
So in the movie “Expelled” when Mr Dawkins said “I’m being a hell of a lot more frank and honest in this interview than many people in this field would be”
So is he now going to pick an choose what part of his interview with Expelled was true and which parts he was “just humoring” the interviewer?
Mcoville;
It’s not “just humoring” someone at all. He is honestly answering a question: what do you think would constitute intelligent design. He says that an alien species capable of doing all the necessary things could do that.
The Expelled “documentarians” twist it, as does Comfort, to say that Dawkins actually believes this, when it is obvious from the text (did you read it?) that such is not the case.
The text says “may have”, not that he positively believed such.
Richard Dawkins says that higher intelligence life could indeed have created everything we perceive. He says so in his book “The God Delusion” too. And the reason he does is simple : he , unlike religous people, always keeps an open mind to things.
However, Atheism is not about disproving the existance of super intelligent creators although it is very clear that we can explain all that we see WITHOUT needing to reach for the easy “God did it” answer.
Really, there may be a god or they may not be but who says the sacred books were written BY god ! And that’s what it all boils down to : you can believe that something intelligent created us, it certainly did not happen the way the Bible is telling you and the Bible certainly is not by the hand of anything super intelligent.
