I have called you friends

Jesus said (John 15:15) “I no longer call you servants… I have called you friends.”
This quote, which applies to those who have found their purpose in Jesus, is powerful. Before Jesus, we were slaves. We were slaves to materialism, greed, and selfishness. Now there is a way to be set free, discover our purpose, and enjoy eternity in Heaven with God: make him our King and Savior. We pray “Jesus is Lord,” and that is true – but Jesus calls us friends. That’s amazing!

Are you really living?

Siddhartha at one time noticed the human slavery to material things, even food was enslaving man. But he found transendance beyond the greed of need. He became free of the things you mentioned when he became enlightened as the Buddah.
I think you should find something else that we are free from now that we are purchased by Jesus… How about death? We now are free of both physical and spiritual death. Is that not the true essance of our freedom in Christ?

I did write we get to spend eternity in Heaven with God.
Sure, but how you stated it, this seemed like an after thought or side effect. It seemed undernoted when it is the real signifance of the Atonement of Christ, that we all now have the oppertunity to live forever with our God.
Are we really slaves?
God has given us the power to choose. A slave in a very real sence has no such ability to choose.

Romans 6:17 says “But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.”
Yes, we have a choice. I’m just saying that sin is not just what we do before Christ, it’s who we are before Christ. In that way, we are slaves.
“sin is who we ARE before Christ.” interisting thought.
I hadn’t looked at it that way before. Although, I disagree, it is by being annal and spliting hairs. I cannot see people as being sin, or even the many uphmisims used for sin: Dirt, mud, darkness… But I do see how we are naturally sinful and go against God.
I can see it like the natural man is a 2 year old, not knowing what id good for themselves or even understanding that what they think they want (I Need that NOW!!!) is not in truth for their best intrest. Or like the rebelous teenager that sneeks out of the house at night to “be Free” of their parent’s rules, not understanding that those rules keep them safe and help them find better understanding without jepordy.
That is just my take on the whole think, no anomosity here just wanted to bounce some thinking off you.
Personally, I do find it offenceive when people keep overstating how dirty and bad people are. There is a comparison between a righteous man and the righteousness of God that brings this up… But that is like comparing the Light we see of a far off star to the light we see of the Sun.
