The Divine Firestorm

5:42 am in Evangelism, Miscellaneous by Justin

I’m going to share something with you tonight, something a little personal. Right now the most tender spot in my heart, the subject that most enflames me and drops me to my knees in prayer is this: Revival. Even just making the word fills me with such hope. But what is Revival? Dictionary.com defines it as “restoration to life, consciousness, vigor, strength, etc”. And that’s exactly what we need. Looking out across our nation tonight, I see such a sea of sin and debauchery. Millions of aborted babies, men dressing as Santa Claus and killing a little girl and others, corrupt govenors, sex scandals, and so much more. I’m called to remember the words of our soon-to-be President. Mr. Obama said that America was, “no longer a Christian nation”. And I couldn’t think of words more true.

And even the church is no longer primarily a Christian church. (By church I’m not referring to the invisible body of all true believers, but the mass of people who profess to be Christians now). Postmodernism, humanism, pragmatism, prosperity, psychology, feminism, and so much more gobbily gook permeates our churches. I hear the voice of Oprah and the Media more in church than the voice of Christ. People are worked up with emotion by low lights and soft music, told to come foward and give their hearts to Jesus and pray this prayer. They’re counseled for 5-10 minutes, if at all. Then the service is over and the conversion lasts as long as the emotion, and he quits church. Or worse, he believes himself saved and that he’s fine, when he’s lost.

Now, understand that I’m painting a dark, dark picture of the world in America, and as well I should, but just as with witnessing you have Law and Grace, there is a Glorious upside to this darkness. While things are horrible now, we can look into the past and let’s look at England in the 1700′s. England had lost it’s Christian roots. The average 14 year old was a whore on the street, everyone was addicted to alcohol. If you were poor and had some money you bought Gin. If you were rich, absinthe. The whole nation was falling in a spiral of sin and addiction and fleshly desires. Christianity had been beaten to the edge of destruction, and it looked bleak for the religion. But God raised up some men. John Wesley, Charles Wesley, George Whitfield, the Moravians. And with these men and others God set the wilderness of England ABLAZE with His Holy Fire. There are thousands of such stories and times across the span of church history. The church declines and the culture advances and attacks and sins and falls away from God. And God in His gracious providence, raises up men and women who read the Scriptures  and pray and give their entire beings to God and His purposes. And He uses them mightily. Today, the church is fallen, the culture calls good bad, and bad good. They do not seek the Lord. But. If God has worked Revivals in the past, He will work them now and in the future. I believe we are on the brink of Revival. I’m seeing it! Whether it’s in my own friends and their hearing the old preachers and hearing Truth, and seeing what’s wrong today, or other men and women across the nation taking stands for Christ. It’s starting, and God’s Holy Fire is coming down on us faster than many of us know.

Pray for Revival. Pray, pray, pray. But I love this Paul washer quote, “The Devil and wicked men have no reason to stop a man praying for revival, unless he is also laboring for reformation.” WE MUST LABOR FOR REVIVAL! We must take a stand. We must witness and make disciples and stand firm on the truths of our faith. We must be men and women of PRAYER and STUDY. We must dwell in the presence of God and abide in Him and when we open our mouths we must speak forth the Truths of Eternity. If you want to see Revival happen, pray and work. It’s happening already, we’re on the verge of it. That might mean 5, 10, or 20 years, but it’s coming soon. Be prepared to give up your life for Christ.

Before my life is over, I pray and yearn and am working to see America a Christian Nation once again. To see our churhes FIRM on the truths of the faith. God, give us America or let us die with our country. Give us the boldness and strength to preach Christ and Him crucified even though it is foolishness to those who are perishing. Raise us up as a mighty army of peaceful warriors who follow the Captain of our Salvation into the battle, no matter how fierce the fighting. Sweep your long arm of salvation over the broken, fallen homes and cities of this country and bring forth Salvation for these people. Set our country ablaze once more, as you did in days of old. Let us be able to preach to our grandchildren of the mighty workings and movings of the Holy Spirit that You will do in this nation. Lord, we pray for that sweet word, a word so full of the promise of  the Holy Spirit’s presence and power, Revival. And it’s in Christ’s name that we ask this. Amen.

Your brother in Christ,
Jacob

Political Christians

5:09 am in Politics by Justin

It has been stated by some on this blog that abortion, however much an important issue, is often focused on in such a way that it is to the exclusion of other worthy issues.  I think this is a legitimate concern, although I would never want to down play the millions of lives that have been lost to the abortion tradgedy.  So I ask you this: provide your top 5 political issues that Christians should be concerned about.  I am interested at seeing your response and may try to be a more aware Christian by learning and writing about your issues.

It's about LIFE

8:03 pm in Politics by Justin

When it comes to the 2008 Presidential election, it is about life. Do I want a president who will use his power to move forward the agenda of those who would seek to end life prematurely or do I want one who will defend the rights of the unborn? If I cannot trust a person to care for the helpless, why would I trust them to help me when I need it?

Obama said on the issue of life that it is “above his pay grade”. Well I am sorry, but I want someone who is going to be the leader of the free world to have at least enough education to realize that when 23 chromosomes comes from your dad and meets with 23 chromosomes from your mom, it combines at conception to make a human being. If it is not human, then what is it? It is not a horse, a tree, or a fish.

There are many problems with McCain, but he stands for life. Not only that, but he has my vote.
