The Leviathan

6:57 am in Bible Thoughts by Justin

Job 41:1-10
1“Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook?
Or press down his tongue with a cord?
2“Can you put a rope in his nose
Or pierce his jaw with a hook?
3“Will he make many supplications to you,
Or will he speak to you soft words?
4“Will he make a covenant with you?
Will you take him for a servant forever?
5“Will you play with him as with a bird,
Or will you bind him for your maidens?
6“Will the traders bargain over him?
Will they divide him among the merchants?
7“Can you fill his skin with harpoons,
Or his head with fishing spears?
8“Lay your hand on him;
Remember the battle; you will not do it again!
9“Behold, your expectation is false;
Will you be laid low even at the sight of him?
10“No one is so fierce that he dares to arouse him;
Who then is he that can stand before Me?

AOL news had a story on the recent discovery of a giant sea-going dinosaur dubbed, “Predator X“. This monster had a 33,000 lb per square inch bite force and a mouth that could easily handle a Hummer! If this thing is a Rottweiler, a T-Rex is a Chihuahua! Ok, that might be a little exaggerated, but it’s bite force is 4 times as large as the T-Rex’s. While I do not know if this monster was the Biblical Leviathan, I do know that if it isn’t, the Leviathan was even greater than this monster because the Bible says that “Nothing on earth is like him”. The Leviathan was the pinnacle of sea-creatures. It was the largest, scariest, strongest beast in the entire ocean. No man can prevail against him. It says bronze is like rotten wood before the Leviathan. God says that there is NO man strong or fierce enough to even dare to arouse this monster. The Leviathan could even breathe fire! This thing was incredibly powerful and dangerous! And after saying all this, God says in verse 10, Who then is he that can stand before Me? As powerful as the Leviathan and all other creatures are, God is even more powerful. Predator X may or may not be the Leviathan, but it is certainly a powerful testament to the greatness of God. That God designed and made this creature, and God alone can come to it and tame it. Just the thought produces an awe in me that God is so sovereign and powerful. Who am I? There are many creatures and beings more perfect than I who worship God, what a privilege and astounding thing it is to be offered redemption at the price of God’s own Son!
Just some thoughts I had on that.
