The Leviathan
6:57 am in Bible Thoughts by Justin

Job 41:1-10
1“Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook?
Or press down his tongue with a cord?
2“Can you put a rope in his nose
Or pierce his jaw with a hook?
3“Will he make many supplications to you,
Or will he speak to you soft words?
4“Will he make a covenant with you?
Will you take him for a servant forever?
5“Will you play with him as with a bird,
Or will you bind him for your maidens?
6“Will the traders bargain over him?
Will they divide him among the merchants?
7“Can you fill his skin with harpoons,
Or his head with fishing spears?
8“Lay your hand on him;
Remember the battle; you will not do it again!
9“Behold, your expectation is false;
Will you be laid low even at the sight of him?
10“No one is so fierce that he dares to arouse him;
Who then is he that can stand before Me?
AOL news had a story on the recent discovery of a giant sea-going dinosaur dubbed, “Predator X“. This monster had a 33,000 lb per square inch bite force and a mouth that could easily handle a Hummer! If this thing is a Rottweiler, a T-Rex is a Chihuahua! Ok, that might be a little exaggerated, but it’s bite force is 4 times as large as the T-Rex’s. While I do not know if this monster was the Biblical Leviathan, I do know that if it isn’t, the Leviathan was even greater than this monster because the Bible says that “Nothing on earth is like him”. The Leviathan was the pinnacle of sea-creatures. It was the largest, scariest, strongest beast in the entire ocean. No man can prevail against him. It says bronze is like rotten wood before the Leviathan. God says that there is NO man strong or fierce enough to even dare to arouse this monster. The Leviathan could even breathe fire! This thing was incredibly powerful and dangerous! And after saying all this, God says in verse 10, Who then is he that can stand before Me? As powerful as the Leviathan and all other creatures are, God is even more powerful. Predator X may or may not be the Leviathan, but it is certainly a powerful testament to the greatness of God. That God designed and made this creature, and God alone can come to it and tame it. Just the thought produces an awe in me that God is so sovereign and powerful. Who am I? There are many creatures and beings more perfect than I who worship God, what a privilege and astounding thing it is to be offered redemption at the price of God’s own Son!
Just some thoughts I had on that.

Nice Post!
Do you actually think that a reptile that went extinct nearly 150million years ago co-existed with humans?
How does that work?
Hahaha….
Seriously?
150 million years ago, the earth didn’t exist yet. This animal didn’t die millions of years ago. I don’t know when it died, but it definitely co-existed with humans. Sea animals were here only a few days before man. That’s how it works.
“150 million years ago, the earth didn’t exist yet.”
Is this a joke? I hope so.
Here’s something I learned in first year college Hebrew: The Hebrew word for “day” in the Genesis story (yom) can mean day, age or epoch. Even if you believed the bible literally there is lots of room for interpretation here.
If you do believe the bible literally you’re going to run into problems pretty quickly, as the creation stories in chapters 1 and 2 of genesis differ.
Example -
God made the beast of the earth… Then God said, “Let Us make man…”
Gen 1.25a, 1.26a
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground… Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. Gen 2.7a, 2.19
Right out of the gate, in the first two chapters, the bible contradicts itself. So please don’t try to tell me that “animals were here only a few days before man.”
No more canned answers. Your explanations are a joke. That’s how it works.
You should have also learned that day means day literally when combined wit a number such as it is in Genesis.
And the Bible does not contradict itself in the first two chapters. I am sure you have heard the explanations to what you perceive as the contradiction, so why do you keep bringing it up? See http://www.gotquestions.org/two-Creation-accounts.html
Glad I’m not the only one who saw this creature and thought immediately of Job 41! You may be interested in my post on the subject:

This might be far fitched but im thinking that the Leviathan is the same as the kraken and the same as the Midgard serpent and if you take in account that all these creatures have some form of a serpent like body or snakish in form then it adds up…also remember the sound that was noticed by the military in 1997(as the Bloop) was considered possibly the largest animale sound ever heard under the water far larger then a blue whale which is 100 feet long…so this monster could be 2x the size maybe even 3. Being that some subs and sound equipment cant reach certain ocean depths because of pressure…so if this is a real creature it is down there in the deep deep blue eating whales and shellfish…its amazing to think somethang extreamly large is down there waiting to come up!!!!
I would like to give you another way to view Leviathan. RL
